The Watch I Never Knew I Needed and Now Can’t Live Without
Remember back in the day when you wore a watch just to tell time? And, yes, maybe it made you look sporty, dressy, or classy.
I remember. And let me tell you, I loved my low-tech assortment of watches. Whether I wanted a little bling, a lot of stretch, or simple black leather, I could always dress my watch up or down depending on my mood, the day, and the event.
So, when my husband got me an Apple Watch 10 for my birthday, I was not initially excited. Did I really want another piece of technology taking over my life? Did I even need it? What possible use could it serve?
It didn’t take me long to realize just how powerful this watch was – and how it would change my life for the better.
Why I Need One of These Watches (And Maybe You Do Too)
I’m a writer, and like most writers, I sit down an awful lot. Hours can disappear while I write, rewrite, and then write some more. I never realized how much time I spent sitting…that is, until my Apple Watch started “tapping” me with messages that it was time to get up and move!
At first, I resented my new watch because it absolutely felt like having a nag on the end of my wrist telling me to stop writing and get up already! But instead of fighting it, I decided to give it a try. And boy, am I glad I did!
I quickly grew to enjoy the exercise features of this watch. The built-in fitness tracker helps me keep track of my steps, workouts, and heart rate … which I’ve never done before but now do religiously – and my doctor is proud of me and my results.
The first time I strapped it on, I didn’t realize all the cool things that this watch would do for me. I did notice the big 46mm case and the large face display that is crystal clear, which really helps my sore writer’s eyes.
At first, I was happy to hit the low step count that the watch gave me. But soon enough, I wasn’t happy getting 7,000 or 8,000 steps. Most days now, I’m getting between 10,000 – 15,000 steps. I still recall fondly the day I spent outside playing with my husband and dog, running, chasing balls, and hiking all day – only to see that I’d clocked in at 20 miles and logged 31,000 steps!
This Apple Watch Helped Me Lose 25 Pounds
Okay, so this watch is still a nag – but now it’s like that super fit “significant other” (you know the kind I’m talking about) that, instead of irritating you, somehow keeps you up and moving.
But what happens when the novelty wears off and I don’t feel like exercising? The Apple Watch offers lots of other fitness options that I can track besides walking. I could (and do) go bike riding, go to the gym and hit the stair climber or elliptical, or run around my local high school’s outdoor track.
The best part is, I don’t worry that I’ll never figure out this exercise thing anymore … because now, my watch “bestie” reminds me to do it. If I reach a weight loss plateau, no biggie. Why, you ask? It’s because even if my numbers are low today, there’s always tomorrow – and at the end of the week, I’ll get notified that I completed a 7-workout week! That’s because every single day, I do one kind of workout or another, all thanks to my watch.
That constant cheerleading (let’s not call it nagging) has helped me lose weight, even though I’ve traditionally hated working out. Now it’s kind of fun! I never wanted to do team sports because someone was always bigger, stronger, or more talented than me. Now it’s just me against me. That’s how I finally lost 25 pounds.
More Reasons to Love This Apple Watch
Not only is the Apple Watch a great exercise motivator, but it’s also an excellent resource for calendar reminders, timers, plus notifications about texts and emails that need your attention.
Like most people, sometimes I put down my phone somewhere and then forget where I’ve left it. Using my watch, I can “ping” my phone and all I have to do is follow the pings and voila! There’s my phone!
It’s also great to use when I want to listen to music, pick up phone calls, or unlock my front door when I’ve left my phone and keys inside the house!
Apple Watch: Top 5 Reasons Why This Watch is So Worth It
I’m a believer, and you will be too! Here’s why:
:: The Big Watchface
I mentioned this earlier, but it bears repeating: the 46mm case is big and bold and easy to read. Plus, it makes reading texts and emails on your watch easy if you’re not supposed to be looking at your phone (cough, cough, in meetings J) It’s the biggest one ever put into an Apple Smartwatch!
:: The New Case Makes This Watch Lighter
Move over, predecessor: the aluminum model is 10% lighter – and that doubles to 20% when you compare the stainless-steel Series 9 to the titanium Series 10
:: Loaded with So Many Great Features
Interested in features? Well, here we go: includes an Always-On Retina Display, Wide-angle OLED Up to 40% brighter when viewed at an angle (which makes glancing at your watch and seeing the time, a text, or an email so much easier), high and low heart rate notifications, Sleep Tracking and Sleep Apnea notifications, Water resistant up to 50m (swim proof), Bluetooth, GPS, and so much more.
:: Dress to Impress
Yes, I can still “dress up” or “dress down” my watch with just a quick band change. Stretchy, sporty, silicone, tortoise shell, gold, floral, magnetic leather – you name it. There’s a sporty, chic, or sophisticated look just waiting for you!
My Final Rating: 5/5 Stars
Some people say that this watch is the best Apple Watch ever made. I say, I AGREE! A bigger, better, brighter display and case, the ability to enjoy all sorts of amazing features, and even dress your watch up or down. Watch enthusiasts everywhere need to become the proud, new owners of this watch. It’s everything I could want in a smartwatch!
