Sharper Image Soother White Noise Machine

Hearing Noise While You Sleep is Better Than You Think

This is a true but sad story. Many years ago, when I met my husband, he had severe sleep issues. He could never sleep in a quiet environment. As he had done while living in a dorm room during his college years, he would run the hair dryer on cold, all night, every night. When the hair dryer would eventually die, he would run the Electrolux cannister vacuum.

Being of sound mind, I recognized the danger that could result from a hair dryer malfunction possibly causing a fire. So, I researched and discovered that white noise machines were a thing, and I was forever grateful for its inventor.

What is White Noise?

The official scientific definition of white noise is a sound that contains a mix of many sound frequencies found in the spectrum of sounds and in equal parts.

My easier to understand definition is that white noise sounds like a continuous “ssssshhhh” sound, grainy static, or the continuous humming sound that one would hear from a hair dryer, fan, air conditioner, or vacuum.

I’m going to date myself, but I purchased our first white noise machine from a Sharper Image print catalog years ago and we used it for at least the next fifteen years.

Thrilled to Discover That Sharper Image Still Makes the Sound Soother

At some point throughout the years, we replaced our Sharper Image Sound Soother with other brands and models. We even discovered that Apple Music on our iPhones could play white noise. However, I truly missed having a dedicated white noise machine in the house.

To my surprise, Sharper Image still offers a Sound Soother and, as their website claims, they have sold over 80,000 units. That’s not surprising because white noise machines are popular these days and are used for a variety of reasons.

I bought our new Sharper Image Sound Soother (Item #204941) directly from the SharperImage.com website. It was on sale for $63.99, reduced from the retail price of $79.99. In case you’re wondering about the specifications, it fits perfectly on a bedroom nightstand, measuring 8.3″ L x 2.4″ W x 4.6″ H. The product weight is a mere two-tenths of a pound. The sleek, stylish look of this model is impressive and will look good in any décor.

Furry Friends Will Thank You For the Sound Soother’s White Noise

We have four dogs in our house. One dog is severely afraid of thunder. Three of the dogs are frantic during excessive fireworks displays. One dog is not bothered by any sounds. I had tried everything to calm them but to no avail. My daughter-in-law, a veterinary tech assistant, suggested we give one dog a pill during horrific thunder storms to help reduce the anxiety. I did not think that would be a good remedy since it thunders every summer afternoon in Florida. I’d be popping pills in the dog’s mouth continuously.

Yes, the Sharper Image Sound Soother White Noise Machine even works for dogs! As soon as a storm approaches, or I’m made aware that fireworks are set to begin, I turn on the white noise at the highest volume.

Sleep Issues? Sharper Image Sound Soother White Noise Machine is Worth a Try!

I’m not a medical doctor so if you’re facing sleepless nights, consult with a healthcare professional for an evaluation. While many people are helped through white noise, the results will vary.

Some folks might say that a machine like this will cause a dependency on needing noise to sleep. Well, I’d rather be dependent on my Sharper Image Sound Soother White Noise Machine than relying on sleeping pills or supplements or developing anxiety about not sleeping.

Besides using our Sharper Image Sound Soother White Noise Machine for sleeping, I like to use mine while I’m working remotely. It blocks out the cars driving by and kids playing loudly in their yards. I love listening to the wind chimes, surfs up, and brook sounds on the machine.

I think it makes a great gift for anyone that is constantly complaining about restless sleep or noise distractions. If it turns out that the gift recipient doesn’t like hearing the sounds, it’s still a useful clock, alarm, and radio.
