KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer

KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer

Personal History With a 100+ Year Old KitchenAid Brand

I have been baking for most of my life, starting so young that I could barely reach the kitchen counter to help.

Back in those days, we mixed batter with a wooden spoon. But I clearly remember my mother, who was famous for baking pound cakes, receiving a KitchenAid Stand Mixer as a 40th birthday gift from my grandparents. It was beautiful. That mixer lasted for 40 years until she sold her house and no longer needed a mixer.

As for my own KitchenAid story, I received a KitchenAid Stand Mixer at my bridal shower. Not surprisingly that mixer was still going strong after many years. I can only imagine that I mixed more than a thousand batters in that mixer. Then, after the holiday baking season was over a few years ago, I thought I had forever lost my love for baking. With holiday guests eating healthier, I was left with dozens of uneaten cookies and bars. So, I emotionally did something drastic. I donated my KitchenAid stand mixer to Goodwill.

I still needed some sort of mixer to prepare mashed potatoes and pudding mixes, so in its place, I purchased a $22 handheld mixer. I continually tried to convince myself that I liked it better than my KitchenAid stand mixer. But, in reality, there was no comparison.

Fast forward to earlier this year. My handy, dandy lightweight handheld mixer stopped working. That was bad news and good news, at the same time.

It’s Time For A New KitchenAid Stand Mixer

When I started researching stand mixers, I already knew I wanted to stick with the KitchenAid brand. The KitchenAid brand has been around since 1919 so it was a company that I could trust for dependable kitchen appliances. But, boy, are they expensive! So, I remembered that we had a large store credit from Best Buy so I hopped on the Best Buy site. I was thrilled to see that Best Buy offered the mixer I wanted, the KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer With Premium Touchpoints, at a savings of $112.00! While the color choices available at Best Buy were limited compared to other retail sites, I was happy to purchase the contour silver model (instead of the blue velvet color I originally wanted) and save some money.

Features of the KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer (Model # KSM192XDMH)

The KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer with premium touchpoints comes with a 5-quart stainless steel bowl with comfortable handle and 4 included accessories.

Included accessories:

>> Coated Flat Beater
>> Coated Dough Hook
>> 6-Wire Whip
>> Pouring Shield

The 5-quart bowl is great for all sizes of mixing. The tilt-head design allows more efficient access to the bowl when adding ingredients or attaching your chosen mixer attachment. Before you turn on the mixer, you move the lock lever, so it holds the bowl in place during the mixing process.

There are 10 speeds, so you have options based on what you’re mixing. I typically start from a lower speed to ensure that no ingredients come flying out. Then, I’ll adjust the speed based on the recipe’s instructions whether slow, medium, or fast speed is recommended. I love the versatility of the mixer whether I need to mix, whip, or gently knead ingredients.

I was impressed that it offered 59 touchpoints! What does that mean? It means that when the selected mixer attachment, like the flat beater, moves around the mixer bowl, it reaches 59 places in the bowl to grab the ingredients and yield outstandingly effective mixing results.

While my purchase from Best Buy only offered me the choice of three colors, this model comes in a variety of colors to blend with your kitchen colors.

Available colors:

:: Agave
:: Black matte
:: Blue velvet
:: Cast iron black
:: Contour silver
:: Empire red
:: Juniper
:: Matte dried rose
:: Milkshake
:: Mineral water blue
:: Onyx black
:: Porcelain white
:: Pistachio
:: White

The KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer is durable and built to last, and VERY HEAVY. Place it on your counter and leave it there. It is not easily movable. I think it looks great on the granite counter and blends in with my other kitchen appliances. I always say that it’s better to keep an appliance like a mixer out in the open than to hide it in the back of a kitchen cabinet and forget it’s hidden in there.

More Than Just For Baking

From mixing ingredients, mashing food, whipping, or kneading, you’ll appreciate the consistent blending of ingredients every time you use your KitchenAid® Stand Mixer.

Here are some food items I prepare in my stand mixer:

:: Brownies
:: Cookies
:: Cakes
:: Breads
:: Pizza dough
:: Mashed cauliflower
:: Mashed potatoes
:: Shredded chicken
:: Pudding mixes
:: Whipped cream
:: Meringue

Mixer Attachments Sold Separately But Worth It

Excitedly, I look forward to purchasing from a list of more than 10 additional KitchenAid stand mixer attachments for many other convenient uses. The pasta roller & cutter set will be my first choice but there is also an ice cream attachment, vegetable sheet cutter with noodle blade, sausage stuffer kit, food processer attachment, 5 blade spiralizer with peel, core, and slice attachment, glass mixing bowl attachment with lid, and a food grinder.

These versatile attachments can help prepare everything from various types of fresh pasta and vegetable-based noodles, to ice cream, sausage, and more.

Loving My KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer

My favorite part of having another KitchenAid® Stand Mixer in the house again is the ease of mixing. The performance of this mixer is outstanding. I just drop in the ingredients and turn the mixer on. It’s quick, efficient, and gives me the best results on the baked goods that I’m preparing.

The 5-quart stainless steel bowl with convenient handle allows for making big batches of cookies (and small batches) while the pouring shield prevents wasting batter because of spillage. And speaking of spillage, it’s already proven to be neater than using a handheld mixer that could result in brownie batter splattering all over the kitchen counter no matter how hard I try to be neat.

Yes, this mixer was on the expensive side but consider the KitchenAid® Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer With Premium Touchpoints a forever kitchen appliance. And, if you have a lull in baking or think you lost your love for baking, just put the mixer away for a bit. A day will come when you get the desire to bake chocolate chip cookies once again. I promise to never give away a stand mixer ever again. I learned my lesson. This new KitchenAid® Stand Mixer is a keeper.
