Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB/12th Generation)

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB/12th Generation)

I Never Thought I’d Give Up Reading Paperbacks

If you’ve been holding out replacing physical books with a Kindle, I totally understand.

I am one of those readers that relishes every visit to the public library and gets giddy when entering bookstores.

However, something changed earlier this year. Whether I borrowed a book from the library or bought a book, I just couldn’t get absorbed into the plotlines. I was making multiple trips to the library, continuously borrowing and returning books. And the cost of buying a book that cannot be returned to the store is just wasted money.

So, after continuous recommendations from other avid readers, I caved and bought my first Kindle.

What is a Kindle?

The Amazon’s Kindle is a thin, lightweight, e-reader. It’s basically a “smart” device that is dedicated to reading e-books. E-books are digital versions of physical books. Kindles have been around since 2007, allowing the user instant, easy access to reading books.

Here are some benefits of reading on a Kindle:

:: Purchasing digital e-books is less expensive than physical books and you can sign up at your local public library for free downloads on an app.

:: Getting e-books digitally on a local library app means no driving to the library to borrow or return books. Instead, simply click a button on the app.

:: All downloaded books remain stored on the Kindle, so you can have multiple books to read without the added bulk of carrying physical books.

:: The Kindle screen allows you to read in the dark. A physical book would require you to turn on the light or invest in a reading lamp in dark locations.

:: A Kindle is great for travelling as it’s thin, lightweight, and easily fits in a handbag or backpack.

:: The Kindle offers a larger display screen than if you try to read a book on a cell phone.

:: Holding a Kindle is easier than holding a physical book.

:: Kindle fonts can be enlarged for ease of reading. You can’t do that with a physical book.

Quick Facts About the Newest Kindle Paperwhite from Amazon

I ordered the latest model, the Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB), on Amazon for price of $159.99 and it came with 3 Months Free Kindle Unlimited.

Included in the box:

:: Kindle Paperwhite
:: USB-C charging cable
:: Quick Start Guide

The latest Amazon Kindle Paperwhite model offers enhanced glare-free display technology, improved battery life and charging time, faster page turning, waterproof, fun colors, generous storage, adjustable lighting, and so much more.

Glare-Free Display Technology

Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite features their signature 300 ppi (pixels per inch) glare-free optimized display technology that is now 10% brighter at the maximum setting. That means, you can read in any light, indoors or outdoors, making for the optimum reading experience. The 7-inch glare-free display allows the words to look sharp and clear, as the adjustable warm light makes it easy on the eyes, especially at night, for short or long reading sessions.

Improved Battery Life and Charge Time

You may not believe what I’m about to say about the Kindle Paperwhite’s battery life. A single battery lasts up to 10 WEEKS! And all you have to do to charge the Kindle is use the included USB-C charging cable. You can fully charge the Kindle in less than 2.5 hours.

Imagine reading non-stop for weeks and weeks, book after book on a single charge! This battery life feature makes reading when travelling so convenient. Battery life may vary depending on use, sometimes using the maximum bright setting could drain the battery a bit.

Faster Page Turning Makes For Faster Reading

According to Amazon, the Kindle Paperwhite features 25% faster page turns. A faster, more responsive experience allows the user to breeze through pages and quickly scroll through the massive Kindle Library. When you finish reading a page, you simply double tap the page to turn to the next page. I definitely read faster on my Kindle than I do reading a physical book, because I can turn the page faster and partly because it’s just fun reading on a Kindle.

Waterproof Design

The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is waterproof so you can read just about anywhere, even by the pool, at the beach, or in the bath. The IPX8 waterproof rating gives me peace of mind without worrying about accidental splashes or spills when I’m reading a book anywhere near water or drinking a beverage.

Generous Storage Holds Thousands of Books

With 16 GB of storage, the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite can hold thousands of downloaded books. That’s like having a library or bookstore in your hands. Take it from me, it’s so easy to download new e-books from my local library’s app or directly from the Kindle Store. And if I get bored reading a book, I can close it and start reading another book, always knowing that I can return to any book whenever I feel like continuing a story.

Comfortable to Hold

Although I prefer reading books with less pages, every now and then I select a book with more than 1,000 pages. Trying to hold a thick book is not easy, especially while holding a cup of tea. The Kindle Paperwhite is not only ultra-thin and lightweight, but it’s also ergonomically designed. If you consider how long you may be engrossed reading a good book, you could be reading for consecutive hours. The Kindle provides a soft-touch finish ensuring a tight grip.

Fun Colors and Accessories

And speaking of having a tight grip on your Kindle Paperwhite, there are many Kindle covers available that offer enhanced ease of holding and protects the screen from scratches when storing.

Amazon offers covers designed specifically to fit a Kindle. Not only does a Kindle cover allow for more comfortable reading, but the cover also automatically puts your Kindle to sleep when you close it. On the flip side, when you open the cover (like a book opens), the Kindle wakes up so you can continue reading the book. Before you shop for Kindle accessories, you need to decide which color of the Kindle Paperwhite you’d like.

Available Kindle Paperwhite colors:

:: Black

:: Raspberry

:: Jade

I purchased my Kindle in jade and then ordered a matching cover. While the covers are available in a soft fabric material, I preferred to order the sturdy, textured natural leather cover with microfiber interior. The cover folds all the way back for easy one-handed reading.

Kindle Store Offers a Massive Selection of Books

As an Amazon Prime member, I love how easy it is to use Kindle Unlimited and Prime Reading. I have access to an endless selection of books, magazines, and audiobooks. Finding a new book is so much fun. The Kindle Store offers instant access to more than 15 million titles worldwide including Kindle Exclusives that are not sold anywhere else. When I ordered my Kindle, it came with 3 Months Free Kindle Unlimited but when it runs out, I’ll have to consider continuing with a Kindle Unlimited subscription or just use my free library app.

Kindle Paperwhite is One of My Best Amazon Purchases

As a paperback book lover, I can truly say that the Kindle Paperwhite from Amazon has completely transformed my reading experience. The fact that I can enlarge the type to ease my tired, aging eyes when I read, is wonderful. The adjustable lighting allows me to read night or day, indoors or outdoors, in a car, on a flight, even at the beach.

It’s super lightweight and ultra-thin so I simply place my covered Kindle into my purse and off I go. A Kindle comes in handy for reading while waiting for medical appointments or getting the car serviced. And the battery life, just wow! I can go weeks and weeks reading until I need to charge my Kindle.  Once you start reading, you won’t want to put the Kindle down.

But here’s my favorite part of owning an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite. I no longer feel guilty about not finishing a book. If I read one page and don’t like the story I can stop and download another book to read. If I read half a book and get bored, I can simply close it and start another book and resume the previous book another time. Borrowing books on my library app for free means I can stop reading a boring story with no guilt and no money wasted.
