No matter how cautious a driver you are, accidents can happen, so a reliable dash cam can capture unexpected incidents on the road.
What is a Dash Cam?
I’m always on the lookout for unexpected hazards on the road but I am realistic enough to admit that accidents can still happen. A friend in the insurance business suggests that all drivers should invest in a reliable dash cam.
A “dash cam” is a special camera that typically gets mounted on the vehicle’s dashboard and/or in the rear window. This video recording device continuously captures video when the vehicle is travelling. Dash cam video may serve as documented evidence when accidents, hit and run damage, and theft occur.
While there are many available on the market, after doing my diligent research, I decided to purchase the popular REDTIGER dash cam.
Why Select the REDTIGER Dash Cam Brand?
The REDTIGER F77 STARVIS 2 Dash Cam seemed like the right model for my purposes. Although the price was a bit steep, it seemed worthwhile for all that came with the model. The REDTIGER F77 STARVIS 2 Dash Cam does more than just record video. It has extra features that make it even more useful.
This dash cam is designed to capture your drive from both the front angle and the rear of the car as there is also a camera that gets mounted in your back window. That way, you have double the video direction coverage. The special WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) and HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology offers enhanced super night vision ensuring better visibility for reliable recordings both day and night.
While you can buy REDTIGER Dash Cams for a less expensive price from Amazon, you must delve deep to see what comes with those models. There are many features that you would then have to purchase for a separate fee. I found that by purchasing directly from the REDTIGER site, there were bundle-type packages with each model.
So, for the sale price of $249.99, I got the latest F77 Starvis 2 model, a free Hardwire Kit, and 128GB Built-in Storage. Plus, I saved $150.00 off the regular price of $399.99.

Installation and Set-Up Process
Installing the REDTIGER F77 STARVIS 2 Dash Cam was a simple process, but I did have help. With two of us figuring out what to do based on the user manual, it only took about 20 minutes. It probably would have been quicker if we weren’t so picky about tucking the wires out of sight in the vehicle.
The hardwire kit comes with all the necessary accessories including the suction cup mount, charging cable, and user manual. The dash cam easily attaches to the suction cup mount. You can hide the cable wire with the included pry tool and easily attach the rear camera as well. Note that the dash camera is removable so you can take it off whenever you want.
The 3.18-inch touchscreen is easy to navigate and somewhat straightforward. Once all the cables are set up correctly and in place, the system is ready for use.
Voice Control and 3.18-inch LCD Touch Screen: User-Friendly Operation
One of my favorite things about this REDTIGER F77 STARVIS 2 Dash Cam is that it can be activated by voice control. The voice commands allow for hands-free control of your dash cam, enhancing safety by minimizing distractions while driving. However, the buttons are clearly labeled and still easy to navigate while driving. The voice feature is great when I’m driving in the car alone.
Performance and Video Quality: Day and Night
The video quality on the REDTIGER F77 STARVIS 2 Dash Cam is impressive. Most often, a dash cam is used for unexpected driving situations, so the video quality needs to be clear enough to capture evidence. This dash cam is ideal for both day and nighttime recordings. The ultra HDR 4K front camera and 1080p rear cam, along with the wide-angle view, captures images clearly.
The REDTIGER F77 STARVIS 2 Dash Cam provides a 170° view. This wide angle incorporates an amazing wide view of multiple lanes of traffic on the road. In addition, the STARVIS 2 pixel technology combined with HDR is designed to enhance color accuracy and sharpness, ensuring that video recordings capture even detailed information like license plates and road signs. The WDR and HDR technologies significantly improve visibility in challenging lighting conditions, such as nighttime or low-light.
5.8GHz Wi-Fi and FREE REDTIGER Cam app
Wi-Fi lets you connect the dash cam to your cell phone. The 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi supports up to 8 MB/s transmission speed, allowing you to download a 4K video clip to your phone in under 30 seconds. So, while the dash cam is installed, the Wi-Fi and app allow you to operate it with wireless control from your smartphone.
The REDTIGER cam app is free to download on both iOS and Android devices. It allows dash cam users to control the dash cam remotely, view recordings, and download videos. It also allows you to easily change camera settings and share videos.
Built-in GPS Tracking
The REDTIGER F77 STARVIS 2 Dash Cam features real time built-in GPS tracking so when you review recorded driving footage, a GPS overlay shows the actual location, speed, and accurate route from the time of the recordings. That means that the built-in GPS tracks your destination and records how fast you were driving. This detailed information can really help to show what happened in an accident. This could be especially helpful when filing an insurance claim or handling a potential legal issue.
Loop Recording
The REDTIGER F77 STARVIS 2 Dash Cam provides a loop recording feature that automatically overwrites the oldest footage when the memory is full. This helps ensure continual recording with the included 128GB card.
G-Sensor Emergency Recording
The built-in G-sensor protects any video footage that may be associated with an accident based on the detection of sudden movements or impacts. This is an important feature as it helps retain video footage that should not be overwritten during loop recording.
Free Parking Monitor Hardwire Kit
Connect the hardwire kit to the fuse box and the front and rear dash cam can provide you with 24/7 parking protection without draining your battery. That means that the G-Sensor Parking Mode automatically records when it detects any collisions or sudden motion while your vehicle is parked. This can catch hit-and-runs or other damage to your vehicle.
